Olim Unit Head
Originally from Livingston, NJ, I now live in New Orleans and work as a rabbi at Congregation Gates of Prayer during the year. As a rabbi, I run our social justice committee as well as Tribe, a group for Jewish young adults to socialize, learn and celebrate Judaism. This will be my 4th summer on staff at Jacobs Camp and my 1st summer in my role as Olim Unit Head. I serve on the board of World Faith, a nonprofit committed to ending religious violence globally by empowering youth from different faith backgrounds to partner through community service.

Sydney Ellen Blen
My name is Sydney-Ellen Blen and I am from Memphis, TN. I am finishing up my freshman year of college at the University of Texas at Austin. I am so excited to be a counselor this year at camp and finally get back my typical summers spent in Utica, MS. This will be my 10th summer spent at Jacobs Camp! During the year I focus on school, meeting new people, and finding new opportunities that will help me with life after college. This year I have volunteered at a soup kitchen during the Texas snowstorm, tutor people in statistics, and coach elementary-age kids in soccer.

My name is Abby Shainberg and I am from Memphis, Tennessee. I am so excited to be an in-cabin counselor at camp this summer! This will be my 9th summer at Jacobs Camp and I am really looking forward to it because it is my favorite summer activity along with traveling! I am an upcoming sophomore at the University of Georgia studying Communication Sciences and Disorders to become a speech pathologist. At UGA, I am involved in an organization that benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Also, this year I helped my sorority raise over $80,000 with our philanthropy event for Prevent Child Abuse America. I am so excited for the camp gates to open and I can’t wait to see what this summer brings!!
My name is Marley Aamodt, and I am from New Orleans, Louisiana! I am a student at the University of Georgia, where I study Psychology and Biology. This summer, I will be an in-cabin counselor, and I could not be more excited to meet my campers. I was a camper myself for 7 years and a counselor-in-training in 2019. During the year, I volunteer for UGA Miracle, where we raise money to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
I’m from New Orleans and I spent this past year as a freshman at the University of Alabama. I’m a camp counselor and this is my 11th summer at HSJ. In terms of volunteer work, I’m an upper staff counselor at Camp Dream Street– a camp for kids with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy and spina bifida– and was a counselor for 4 years there. Can’t wait to be back at camp and Roll Tide!
Hi! My name is Emma Meyer and I am from New Orleans, Louisiana. I am currently finishing up my freshman year at the University of Colorado Boulder and am studying business. This summer, I am so excited to be back as a counselor and spend time with everyone in the HSJ community. I have been going to camp since I was in Olim, so I am so excited to continue my camp experience as a staff member. When I am not at camp, I spend time volunteering for my sororities’ philanthropy at Safehouse in Denver, Colorado and I am finishing up my internship with Startupbootcamp in Melbourne, Australia. I am so excited about the summer!
