Camp Nurse Summer 2023

Background: The URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp is a residential, Jewish summer camp located in Utica, MS that serves campers ages 7-16, who spend between ten days and six weeks on-site during the summer. Children from across the Deep South join together each summer to experience the fun and magic of Jewish camping. We strive to create a healthy, nurturing environment for campers and staff to try new activities, build meaningful relationships, and grow their Jewish identities. Every child who spends a summer at Jacobs Camp returns home a littler wiser, a little more self-confident, and a little more connected to the Jewish community.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse, currently licensed
  • Experience in pediatric, camp, or school nursing preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee camper and staff health and wellness throughout the summer
  • Care for sick or injured campers on a daily basis, including dispensing medication and responding to emergencies
  • Be on call at specific times of the day
  • Follow all health standards and local operating procedures
  • Perform health checks on opening day and assist with necessary treatment
  • Communicate with campers’ parents about health concerns
  • Must communicate to the counselors and Unit Heads about medical decisions influencing their campers
  • Coordinate with Health Center Administrator to establish regular communication with Camp Director
  • Maintain appropriate health logs and records
  • Supervision and care for people admitted to the Health Center over night
  • Serve “on duty” for night and evening supervision of the Health Center and emergency needs, in rotation with other nurses
  • Follow standing orders of camp physician or visiting physician
  • Other duties from time to time may be assigned
  • Be in-residence at camp. Room and board included

Job Type:

  • We are looking to hire nurses for one week or multiple weeks from June 10-August 2. A week typically runs from Wednesday to Wednesday.
  • Salary range starts at $1500/week commensurate with experience
