Unit Head

Ella Rockoff

My name is Ella Rockoff and I’m from Jackson, MS! I’m a junior at Birmingham Southern College and teach Sunday School at Temple Emanuel-El. I’ve been going to camp since I was 6 years old, and I can’t wait to come back this summer! I’m so excited to be the Talmidim unit head this summer and take on a bigger role in the Jacobs Camp Family!


Hannah Bienvenu

Hi! My name is Hannah! I am from Baton Rouge and I am studying Textiles, Apparel, and Merchandising with a concentration in Apparel Design, along with Communication Disorders. When I am not studying or sewing, I run an online secondhand clothing store. I was a camper for 2 years, and this will be my 3rd year on staff. This year I am one of the Solelim Advisors! During the year, I love to volunteer at a cat shelter. I also help with year-round camp events like NFTY.  In the future, I would like to do more volunteer work related to sewing instruction and education on the Fashion Industry’s effect on the environment.

Sara Springle

Hi, I’m Sara and I’m from St. Petersburg, Florida. Right now, I’m working as a research assistant in the field of disaster recovery, and I’ll be starting graduate school in the fall. This is going to be my second year working at camp. During the year, I volunteer with a domestic violence prevention organization.

Talia Buxbaum

I have been going to Jacobs Camp every summer since Olim, making my first year as a general counselor my 11th year! I recently moved to Tallahassee, Florida but, before that, I lived in Jackson, Mississippi. After camp I am planning to move to Boston for art school. I love to paint, read, and I have been the Mississippi Girls Chess Champion for 3 years. I also have a chihuahua named Latke. I can’t wait to be a part of the Jacobs Camp staff!

Meytar Hagay

Hi! My name is Meytar, I’m from Kfar Saba in Israel and I am 21 years old. In my free time, I love to read, hang out with friends, play on the computer, do some sports, go on traveling, and have fun 🙂 This is my first summer in camp. I came to camp to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience, enjoy this summer instructing the kids, creating a special bond both with them and with the other staff. I’m very excited for this summer, to learn more about myself and different cultures and behaviors, to enlighten myself with various possibilities, and create meaningful, fun connections and experiences 🙂 Thank you for having me this summer!

Rachel Smet

Hello! My name is Rachel Smet, and I am from all over because I am a military child! I was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, but I currently live in Springfield, Virginia. I recently committed to Texas A&M University and will be starting there in the fall. I will be a general counselor this summer; I started camp in Garin 3, and the rest is history! I do a ton of volunteer work: I volunteer at a place called NOVA RAFT, which helps resettle Afghan Refugees, I am a peer tutor, I used to volunteer at a homeless shelter when I lived in New Jersey, and so much more! I cannot wait for another incredible summer at HSJ!

Hanni Gerowin

Hello, I’m Hanni Gerowin (she/her) and I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana! I have been going to camp since I was in Olim and will be a camp counselor this summer. I volunteer for sustainability programs, such as Glass Half Full NOLA, and work towards helping the environment. I am going to The School Art Institute of Chicago to study fashion and photography. I love to explore how art can connect to many different aspects of our lives!

Roni Ginzburgski

My name is Roni. I am 23 years old from Ness Ziona in Israel. I studied at the Culinary School about a year ago and currently I work in the bakery as a confectioner for about half a year, I really love my job 🙂 At the camp I’m going to be a cooking Specialist and I’m so excited to pass on the knowledge I acquired in the last year in the most fun way possible.

Abby Israel

My name is Abby Israel and I’m from Memphis, TN. I’ve been coming to camp for 9 years and this is my first year on staff as a counselor. I recently graduated from high school and will be attending the College of Charleston in the fall as a theater major! I am so excited to work with campers this summer and give back to the Jewish community.

Gabe Freedman

Hello! My name is Gabe Freedman. I am planning to attend LSU next year to study business. I have always enjoyed working with children, having been a part of the Mentoring Program at my school where I mentor an elementary student from my area. I have also spent three years as a counselor at Camp Dream Street, including this summer. This summer will be my 12th year of camp. My favorite activities include sports, the Blob, and the tower, and I look forward to getting to spend the summer with all of you!

Mo Gilbert

Hey! My name’s Mo Gilbert and I’m from Memphis, TN. I go to school at Purdue University, studying Genetics and Psychology. My main role this summer will be as an in-cabin counselor, while also working in the Sports Department. I’ve been going since Kochavim, making this my 11th year at camp, and second year on staff! My life out of camp mostly consists of school work and working in my fraternity (AEPi). I’m  so excited for this summer and can’t wait for opening day!!!

Evan Levine

Hi, my name is Evan Levine, I’m from Rogers, Arkansas, and I’m going to be an in-cabin counselor and photographer this summer. This will be my tenth summer at Jacobs Camp and my second year on staff. After this summer, I will be moving to Pittsburgh, PA to study photojournalism at Point Park University.

Chase Walls

I’m from Booneville, Arkansas, and I usually just worked at Walmart throughout the year and on my days off I go hang out with friends, one of them being Kiwi that told me about Jacobs camp. This is my first summer being at Jacobs Camp! I’m a camp counselor.I had three younger siblings growing up, so I have a lot of experience in taking care of children. I cannot wait to make new friends and have a great time with everyone I have heard so much about! 

Louis Reagler

I am from Hot Springs, Arkansas. I am going to college at Denison University.  I volunteer with a few different organizations during the year. This is my 11th year at camp and I will be a counselor.

Matan Sahar

My name is Matan Sahar, I am from Petah-Tikva, Israel. I like to travel (mostly in nature), read books, and spend time with my family and friends. My biggest love is to play and coach basketball. I was a basketball player from age 7-17. When I was seventeen, I decided that I wanted to be a basketball coach. I went to College at Wingate. After I finished my studies successfully, I received a basketball coach diploma. For the last two years, after my army service, I worked at an elementary school called Huberman as a basketball coach. My role at camp is to be a counselor and basketball specialist. This will be my first summer at Camp.
