Introduction to Jacobs Camp
To say that Henry S. Jacobs Camp had a significant impact on the trajectory of my life would be the understatement of the century! This was where I met the love of my life, Scott Levine, established many life-long friendships and developed my Jewish identity.
It took some convincing to get me to go to a “Jewish” camp in the first place. I finally decided to give it a try and at age 15 when I went for my first summer. Once there, I regretted that I had not gone sooner. I realized this camp was different because of the connections and relationships that are made while at camp. This is the community you build and become part of, that stays with you for a lifetime.
We sent both of our children to camp just as soon as they were old enough. I am grateful to have met and made so many connections over the years as a camper, and parent of a camper. As the song goes, “Wherever you go, there’s always someone Jewish.” And because of Jacobs Camp, my Jewish world is much larger than it would have been had I not taken a chance that one fateful summer.
