Olim Fun, Messy Nights, and Podcasts – Week 2 in the Books
Shabbat Shalom from Jacobs Camp!
The second week of the session is already coming to a close, and camp is flying by! It is hard to believe that we will say goodbye to our Olim campers this weekend! It has been such a blessing to have our camp community together, and we are having an incredible time with our Jewish community together. Take a look at the fun from this week in the week in review video.
It has been another super fun week here in Utica! We celebrated Israel Day with help from our Israeli counselors and campers, had an all-camp “minute to win it” competition, and enjoyed a cookout in the valley with hamburgers and fresh watermelon. We are also loving JCAN (Jacobs Camp at Night), which is a new evening program where campers can choose their own adventure between activities like basketball, crafting, indoor climbing, and more!
Olim had a blast in their final week of camp! They wrote thank you notes to their unit staff, had an epic messy night, enjoyed a “Yes Day”, and had their own Mardi Gras parade complete with a float of their own design! Olimers learned more about camp during “Take an Olimer to Work Day” and explored their future careers as scientists, chefs and teachers. We are going to miss this special group of campers!
This week in Garin, campers played in a soccer tournament, learned compass skills, made fashion sketches and learned some new dance moves! They also had a blast on messy night, and enjoyed their cabin bunk nights and campfires.
Maskilim had a pool party, practiced new skills like embroidery and cheerleading, learned outdoor survival skills, and prepared for their athletics showcase with wacky basketball tricks. They also got to show off their amazing talents during the Maskilim talent show!
Talmidim had a great week recording their new podcast, “Talmidim Talks”, which you can listen to here. Their unit’s sports specialty campers worked on their running skills with jogs around the lake, and adventure specialty camp practiced team work on the low obstacle course. The whole unit competed in Talmidim vs. Chalutzim Maccabiah and enjoyed a Talmidim pool party!
Our Chalutzimers enjoyed a salsa dancing class and had a one-of-a-kind messy night complete with beats from DJ Lupin, a Chalutzim staff member and real life DJ. They are really bonding as a group with special activities like a unit campfire, international cooking night, and a Chalutzim talent show.
Now Shabbat is here, and all of camp is preparing to celebrate together starting with a delicious bbq brisket dinner.
We are so thankful to have your campers with us, and there is a lot more fun ahead!
Love,
Anna
