Candy Heists to Kehillah: Week One at Jacobs Camp

Shabbat Shalom from Jacobs Camp!
There is nothing better than Shabbat at camp. I love seeing our community come together, all dressed in white to celebrate the end of an amazing week. Tonight we will enjoy Kabbalat Shabbat, a family-style dinner of roasted turkey, cornbread dressing and cherry cobbler, song session, services and Israeli dancing.
The first week of camp has flown by, and we are having a blast! Check out our Week 1 in Review video here.
Here is a little peak into what each unit has been up to:
Taste of Jacobs Camp Our newest campers are having so much fun! They have made new friends, swam in the pool and lake, painted rocks in the art room, enjoyed kehillah (Jewish learning), baked cookies in our Jacobs Camp test kitchen, and enjoyed a campfire. They got to experience “bunk night” which is where each cabin gets to do an extra special activity. The boys cabin pulled off a candy heist, while the girls did a relaxing ‘spa night’. We’ll be so sad to say goodbye on Sunday!
Olim This week in Olim, our campers are playing in the pool and lake, getting creative in the art room, having yoga sessions, playing sports, dancing, and learning about being Jewish. They had a fun campfire complete with s’mores, a nighttime pool party, and an evening sports program. They are having the best time so far!
Garin Garin campers had a chance to sign up for chugim, or specialty activities based on their interests and choice. They also got to learn a bit about songleading, spend time in Kehilla, practice yoga, and swim in the pool and lake. They had their own pool party and played lots of sports!
Maskilim In Maskilm this week, campers explored Specialty Camp options including Performing Arts, Adventure, Sports, Aquatics and Visual Arts. Campers signed up to choose which one they like best. They have also been to the pool and lake, and played capture the flag.
Talmidim Talmidim has really been enjoying their role as the oldest campers (for now!). They also got to explore different specialty camps throughout the week while also cooling off at the lake and pool. During the evenings, they defended their fortresses in an epic battle with water balloons, played capture the flag, and learned about and made their own ancient Israeli incantation bowls.
Solelim We are so proud of our Solelimers! They are jumping right in to learning how to be amazing staff members. They are already so helpful to our counselors, and have spent time shadowing staff members to learn more about how camp runs day-to-day. They are the first ones to move into our new Bayit, which has been amazing, and they get all the kids excited for song session.
We are looking forward to a fun and relaxing Shabbat Saturday tomorrow, and wish you all Shabbat Shalom!
Anna Herman
