Messy Nights and Meaningful Moments

Shabbat Shalom from Jacobs Camp!
We’ve had another amazing week together! The session is flying by, and we are having a blast! You can see what we’ve been up to in our Week 2 in Review video.
Tonight, we’ll gather all together for Shabbat as a camp community, have a delicious family-style Shabbat dinner of BBQ brisket, noodle kugel, carrots, challah and apple cobbler with song session, services and Israeli dancing to follow.
Here is a little peek into what each unit has been up to this week:
Olim This week, our Olim campers have had so much fun at the lake, swimming in the pool and playing in the sprinklers to keep cool! They have been playing lots of sports, spending time in the art room, and trying the new ropes course called the “Disco Course”! Olim campers have also tried out rock climbing, gymnastics, and showed off their talents in the Olim talent show. The highlight of the week was Messy Night! Olimers loved getting covered in paint and sliding down the slip and slides!
Garin Garin campers had such a great time this week fishing, boating, yoga, kehillah (Jewish Education) and more! During Kehillah (Jewish Education), Olim learned about Shalom Bayit or “peace in the home” and how they can use it to get along with their cabinmates and friends. They are loving the lake toys and have enjoyed lots of time at the pool. On Bunk Night, the boys had a special time at the lake and ate fun snacks at their favorite spots around camp, and the girls did a spa night, baking party and fun art activities! They also got to have s’mores around the campfire, and had an epic messy night!
Maskilim In Maskilim this week, campers are enjoying Specialty Camps including Performing Arts, Adventure, Sports, Aquatics and Visual Arts. They have also gotten to choose between fun activities such as ‘fun with chickens’, podcast making, outdoor cooking, biking, and climbing! Maskilimers have been swimming in the pool and lake, and even had an evening pool party! Campers also had the chance to learn salsa dancing and end the night with a piñata. Each cabin got to have their own bunk night full of fun activities like baking, spa night, art, lake time, and fun snacks!
Talmidim This week Talmidim campers tried lots of fun cabin activities including art, sports, songleading, film, basketball, and cooking. They are also having a blast in their Specialty Camps including Performing Arts, Adventure, Sports, Aquatics and Visual Arts. We had an evening pool party and an epic game of capture the flag! During Kehillah (Jewish Education), Talmidim campers learned about Talmudic recipes for common ailments and then created their own recipes for a peaceful cabin. Each cabin had their own special bunk night with activities like painting staff members’ faces, making treats in the test kitchen, a candy heist, a night time visit to the lake and ‘disco course’, and a campout.
Chalutzim Chalutzim has had an incredible week! We had an epic game of capture of the flag with Talimidim, and played “ultimate soap”, a fun spin-off of ultimate frisbee. Chalutzim campers enjoyed a full unit campout where they got to sleep outside, build a fire, and make s’mores. We also had the biggest Messy Night of the session complete with a paint powder explosion! Chaltuzim also had Triathlon Day, where they woke up early to boat across the lake, and had competitions throughout the day. They’ve also enjoyed kehillah, time with Rabbis, swimming in the pool and lake, playing sports and art!
This afternoon, we are having an “MTV Night” dance competition, an all-camp favorite where each cabin performs a dance they have choreographed themselves. It’s a fun way to bring the whole camp together before getting ready for Shabbat!
We are looking forward to a relaxing Shabbat tomorrow full of fun and relaxation!
Shabbat Shalom!

When looking into the future, it can be a scary place—but there’s a good side to it: you can’t predict what will actually happen. At camp, you move up in units from Olim to Chalutzim. I’ll be honest—I don’t even know what I was thinking about back in Olim. Maybe food?...
