As a Community Care Specialist, you’ll support campers and staff, model positive behavior strategies, and help create a safe and inclusive camp environment. Jacobs Camp is able to support students in field education, as we have licensed supervisors who can provide appropriate oversight and documentation.

Community Care Intern Job Description
Title: Community Care Specialist/Intern
Supervisor: Community Care Director (licensed)
Overview: This role focuses on providing hands-on support to campers and staff, modeling best practices for camper care including behavior modification and mindfulness, and helping create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for all children at Jacobs Camp.
Core Responsibilities:
- Model effective camper care techniques within camp life, demonstrating strategies for managing camper needs
- Coach and support camp staff in working with individual campers
- Provide one-on-one support to campers requiring additional attention
- Collaborate with leadership staff to determine best practices for camper care
- Take detailed notes for reporting and parent communication
- Provide care within the lens of URJ Camper MESSH guidelines and restorative justice practices
- Analyze camper survey data to inform programming and operations
- Provide pre-summer training to staff to provide an introduction child development, age-appropriate behavior, and effective behavior management strategies
- Manage camper dietary restrictions, serving as the liaison between campers and the summer kitchen staff, as well as collaborating with counselors and unit head to accommodate dietary restrictions as needed in programming
- Observe campers in activities to better understand behaviors and social dynamics in order to support in-cabin staff as they navigate and accommodate camper needs
- Assist the Community Care Director, Staff Care Specialist, and Camp Leadership in other responsibilities, as assigned
